Aftercare

New tattoo - What's next?

We do our best to tattoo as neat as possible, but you are responsible for the healing. This largely determines how your tattoo will look for the rest of your life. So please read the instructions below carefully.

A new tattoo is similar to a scrape. Poor care and unhygienic handling can cause wound infections and scar tissue. In addition, wound infections can lead to a less beautiful tattoo. If you take good care of the tattoo, it will take three to six weeks for the wound to heal completely.

Instructions

If the tattoo is covered with transparent foil, you can remove it after 3 to 5 hours.

You can shower with a tattoo.

Treat the uncovered tattoo wound as follows:

  • Wash the tattoo twice a day with a mild unscented soap;

  • After washing, pat the tattoo dry with a clean towel or tissue;

  • Cover the wound with an ointment that you have received from the tattoo artist or that he recommends. (We recommend Bepanthen protective ointment or a similar product.)

During the healing process, make sure you:

  • Touch the tattoo wound as little as possible (wash your hands before treating the wound);

  • Do not scratch the tattoo wound;

  • Don't cover the tattoo wound with tight or dirty clothing;

  • Do not cover the tattoo wound with plasters or bandages;

  • Avoid (bubble) baths, swimming pools, saunas and steam baths;

  • Do not expose the tattoo wound to direct sunlight or tanning beds.

For the first two days, you can apply a piece of cling film to the applied tattoo before going to sleep, so that the wound does not stick to your bedding. This way you also prevent crusting and your tattoo will eventually become more beautiful and neat. The tattooed skin remains very sensitive to sunlight even after healing. Therefore, always apply sunscreen to your tattoo.

Please note: contact your doctor in case of extreme redness, swelling, bleeding, exudate, color change or chronic pain.
